SolDevelo is proud to announce that in early June, in collaboration with Vitalliance, we began supporting the implementation of OpenLMIS in The Gambia. The main goal of the project is to enhance the usability of the solution and scale it up across the country. Our work has been divided into three key phases: initiation, reporting enhancements, and maintenance, which will continue until the end of 2026.
The Client
This project is realised in collaboration with Vitalliance, DP World, and the Ministry of Health in The Gambia.
Vitalliance is a specialized healthcare organization that provides personalized home care services, focusing on individuals with disabilities or those in need of daily assistance. They combine professional care with a compassionate approach to improve their clients’ quality of life, offering tailored support solutions to meet unique health and personal needs.
DP World is a leading global logistics company specializing in port terminal operations, maritime services, and supply chain solutions. With a presence in over 60 countries, DP World facilitates international trade by offering efficient and innovative logistics services that connect markets and enable the movement of goods across the globe.
OpenLMIS
OpenLMIS is an open-source, web-based logistics management information system designed to support health supply chains, particularly in low-resource settings. It helps governments and organizations manage and track essential medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies, ensuring their availability at health facilities.
Initiation phase
During the initiation phase, we carried out several essential tasks that laid the foundation for the stability of the OpenLMIS implementation and ensured the application of best practices regarding server infrastructure. These activities included:
- Setting up Jira to enable issue/bug logging and tracking by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
- Conducting a configuration review against the standard configuration guide and country requirements, identifying any gaps.
- Fixing easily resolvable configuration issues, including those listed by The Gambia.
- Reviewing the administration of the MoH-hosted production server to ensure backups are conducted as per the standard operating procedures.
In addition, we improved the SuperSet reporting instance, which was crucial for moving into the second phase of the project – reporting enhancements.
Reporting enhancements
The goal of this phase was to develop the following reports to streamline national-level reporting:
- Adjustments Report: We deployed this report using an agreed-upon template.
- Regular vs Emergency Report: For periods not selected, the months will still appear on the report.
- Distribution Summary Report: A new report showing product distribution from a supplying facility, highlighting the difference between shipped and received products.
- Consumption Report: This report now includes the names of all facilities in the facility filter.
- UI improvements: A number of elements within reports had their names modified to enhance clarity. Colors were also adjusted for better readability.
OpenLMIS upgrade
During the initiation phase, we also deployed the latest version of OpenLMIS – version 3.17 – which addressed numerous issues previously reported by The Gambia.
As a member of the OpenLMIS Core Team, this project has been a great experience for SolDevelo, demonstrating how the value we bring directly solves real business problems within implementations. The latest version is now live in production, and users can benefit from its full functionality. Notably, The Gambia is the first country to upgrade its system to the version 3.17.
Maintenance phase
Currently, we have entered the maintenance phase of the project. This involves ongoing monitoring of the system’s instance and addressing any bugs or issues reported by the in-country team in real time.
We are excited about the progress so far and looking forward to a fruitful collaboration!
