The Client
Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) is an initiative focused on leveraging digital technologies to drive sustainable development and social impact. It acts as a collaborative platform, bringing together governments, private sector players, donors, and non-governmental organizations to create and promote inclusive digital ecosystems.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is a specialized public health agency of the African Union (AU) dedicated to strengthening the capacity of African nations to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats. It serves as a central platform for collaboration among member states, providing technical expertise, resources, and coordination during disease outbreaks and health emergencies
The Africa HealthTech Marketplace project is powered by DIAL’s Digital Impact Exchange and Africa CDC.
Africa HealthTech Marketplace
Africa HealthTech Marketplace is a project dedicated to promoting the Africa-based digital health solutions. It gathers in one place a variety of products addressing local healthcare challenges, making them easier to find and research.
Similarly to Digital Impact Exchange, Africa HealthTech Marketplace aims to solve the problem of digital health tools’ low accessibility. By creating a curated space where valuable solutions are gathered and can be easily searched for, the Marketplace helps healthcare providers, government agencies, and other health-related organizations in finding software that answers their needs and makes their jobs more efficient.
The Africa HealthTech Marketplace also serves as a source of trust, allowing for high quality solutions only. Placing a product on the Marketplace requires meeting certain criteria of quality and security. Solutions are evaluated based on their alignment with Africa’s health security priorities, as well as their scalability, sustainability, and technical strength. The assessment considers key aspects such as data privacy, interoperability, and operational efficiency. With these processes in place, the users can be sure that all products on the HealthTech Marketplace are held to the highest standards.
The uniqueness of this particular initiative lies in its focus on African products. It creates an opportunity for the African digital healthcare solutions providers to grow and showcase their achievements, while at the same time equipping local institutions with software that matches their specific needs and takes into account the context of the area, its challenges and priorities.
Supporting the HealthTech Marketplace
Our role in the project was to provide technical support for the release of the Marketplace, equipping it with all the necessary features while at the same time keeping it user-friendly and easy to navigate.
The Marketplace is available online in the form of a catalog, filtrable by software category, features as well as the product stage. It allows the users to find exactly what they are looking for.
Each product has its own product details page where all the most important information is gathered. This includes product description, software category and stage, contact, license, organization/s supporting the development and/or implementation of the product, countries in which the product is deployed, maturity scores, related projects, repository, and pricing.
Product pages also include descriptions of the impact each solution has on African healthcare. It supports the main premise of this project – promoting African digital health software and supporting unique local use cases.
Users can share, bookmark and comment product pages.
As for the product owners, they can request ownership and gain access to the product page details editing options. Becoming a product owner on the Africa HealthTech Marketplace requires an account on Digital Impact Exchange, where a vetting process is taking place.
Empowering Africa’s digital health future
The Africa HealthTech Marketplace represents a vital step forward in bridging the gap between healthcare challenges and digital solutions across the continent. By offering a curated, accessible platform for high-quality, locally-focused health technologies, it not only amplifies the achievements of African innovators but also ensures that healthcare providers, governments, and organizations can find tools tailored to their unique needs.
We’re happy to be a part of this initiative and excited to watch it grow.
